a regenerative community in Portugal, offering volunteering, eco-tourism, and workshops in permaculture and sustainable living.
Vale Ondula is a permaculture living lab and eco-community. As the stewards of 3.6 ha of forest in Northern Portugal, we strive for a regenerative ecosystem where nature and community thrive.
Together, we’re reimagining food systems, water management, and energy resilience. Our families, elders, and volunteers cultivate not only the land but also a culture rooted in lifelong learning, sustainable living, and mutual care.
In 10 years, we envision Vale Ondula as a flourishing hub within a regional network of permaculture projects and communities, helping create a resilient, sustainable future.

Meet Us
Two families join forces: Luana, Dennis and Inti & Sophia, Sasja, Lamar and Xavi. Together we've set out on an adventure in Northern Portugal. We come from different backgrounds but share a common goal: to cultivate a connected and inclusive way of life.
Our Space
Our home is a beautiful 3,6 hectare forest in Sande, Portugal. There are fruit and nut trees, streams and water basins. We see ourselves as stewards of the land, which is already a safe haven for many animals and plant life.
Activities
We intend to open up our space to individuals and families to have a community and support system: sharing childcare, education, skills, opportunities, harvests and of course friendship, celebration and inspiration.
Join us & volunteer
We are always looking for passionate, curious, and hard-working individuals to join us in co-creating this vision. Volunteering at Vale Ondula is an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, learn hands-on skills in sustainable living, and contribute meaningfully to a project that’s helping to reimagine food systems, water management, and community living.
What You’ll Be Doing
Our daily tasks change with the seasons, reflecting the natural rhythms of the land. You might find yourself:
-
Rehabilitating and maintaining our water systems and pathways.
-
Engaging in forest management and land stewardship to ensure fire safety and ecological health.
-
Supporting childcare and facilitating nature-based play for our little ones.
-
Planting, harvesting, and caring for the gardens.
-
Creating content for our social media platforms to help share our story and inspire others.Building and maintaining natural and upcycled structures.
-
Assisting with daily community life, including shared meals and tidying communal spaces.
-
We always strive to balance work with learning, so there’s room for skill-building, sharing knowledge, and connecting with other like-minded people.
What We Offer in Exchange
As a volunteer, you’ll be warmly welcomed into our community and provided with:
-

Is This For You?
We love hosting individuals, families, and even furry friends (as long as they meet our pet guidelines). Volunteers must bring a positive attitude, a willingness to get their hands dirty, and an openness to community life.
A minimum stay of two weeks is required to ensure a meaningful experience for everyone. For shorter visits, we recommend booking one of our accommodations or joining us for a farm tour.
